Materials/Supplies:  Participants will be responsible to provide their own consumable supplies and
                      materials.  Instructor will discuss and provide a list of items on the first class session.

               

Course Description:
Course provides hands on opportunity for instructors to learn the basic Elements and Principles of Design.  Emphasis will be on developing fine art lesson plans that use a variety of materials and follow the California State Visual Art Standards.  The instructor will develop a unit of instruction that will then be presented to the class participants and traded to build their own "art box" of lessons to take back to their individual classrooms.

About the Instructor:
Heather Henkes has a B.A. in Art Studio from University of California, Santa Barbara and a Masters of Fine Art in Printmaking from the University of Montana, Missoula.  She obtained her teaching credential from the San Diego State University.  She has taught Art at Mission Bay High School for the past 9 years.  In addition, she instructs 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th graders in fine Art in a summer program called Gateways, and will participate in her 9th year this summer.

Course Objectives:
Participants will:
1)   Develop standards based art lesson plans.
2)   Create PowerPoint presentations as a teaching strategy.
3)   Learn organization and management of an art room.
4)   Learn digital archiving of student work.
5)   Develop a complete fine art lesson including sample projects with PowerPoint presentations that will be shared with their peers.
6)   Build an "art box" with a total of 10-12 completely evolved standards based art lessons.
